Wife and I had been hearing good things about Red Apple Cafe, so we finally decided to give it a try.
When we arrived, there were quite a few people waiting outside.
Good sign so far.
We parked, went inside and put our names on the waitlist. They had both indoor and outdoor seating, and we weren’t picky. Whichever opened up first worked for us.
After about a 10-minute wait, we were seated inside.
The restaurant was a lot bigger than it looked from the outside. It had a homey feel, although the seating was a little tight.
Now for the important part.
The food…
REVIEW AT A GLANCE
Location: California
City: Fresno
Craving: French Toast & Eggs
Wife Ordered the Apple Pie French Toast
Jen went with the Apple Pie French Toast.
It’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like… two giant pieces of French toast covered with apple pie filling, whipped cream and cinnamon.
When it arrived, it was so hot that the whipped cream was already starting to melt.
Wife doesn’t add butter or syrup to her French toast, so she was relying on the apple pie topping for most of the sweetness. Unfortunately, she thought the topping wasn’t quite as flavorful as she’d hoped.
The portion, though, was huge.
I Ordered the Works Omelet
I went with the Works Omelet.
Mine came loaded with bacon, sausage, onions, tomato and cheese, along with country potatoes and toast.
There was just one problem.
I don’t like tomatoes in my eggs, and I forgot to ask them to leave the tomatoes out.
That’s on me.
Other than that, the omelet was good, and there was plenty of food on the plate.
Jen had water and lemon tea with her breakfast, while I went with coffee.
The Portions Won
Both of our meals were good, but what really stood out was the size of the portions.
Neither one of us could finish.
We actually had to ask for to-go containers, which doesn’t happen very often for me. I can usually finish my meal.
Red Apple Cafe won that round.
We had a great experience and left already talking about coming back sometime to try lunch.

Mike
Mike is one half of Couples Dining Out. He’s all about seafood, Chinese food, and BBQ, although ribs don’t make the cut very often because his goatee usually pays the price. Give him a cold blonde beer to wash it all down and he’s happy. And dessert? Unless there’s pie involved, he’ll probably pass.
