Finding a breakfast place doing something special for Valentine’s Day turned out to be harder than Mike and I expected.
Hubby searched for days trying to find somewhere for us to go. At one point, he even heard about a restaurant on the radio and called them only to find out the restaurant wasn’t even in California.
So much for that idea.
Eventually, we decided to try Country Waffles at the Villaggio Shopping Center in Fresno.

Our First Impression
Country Waffles was a fairly small restaurant with a definite country feel. There was wallpaper throughout the restaurant and cute wooden bear carvings near the front.
When we visited, you could choose your own table, so we found a spot and settled in for our Valentine’s Day breakfast.
Jen's Strawberry Waffle
Since it was Valentine’s Day, a strawberry waffle seemed appropriate. I ordered mine along with a hot chocolate.
I have a thing about soggy food. I don’t like it.
So I ordered the strawberries on the side rather than having them sitting on top of my waffle.
The strawberries came in a gel-like sauce that I found a little bland and not very sweet. There also wasn’t much powdered sugar on the waffle to help add sweetness.
The waffle itself was good, though.
It had a slight crisp to it, which is exactly how I like my waffles.
Mike Ordered The Country
Mike went in a completely different direction and ordered The Country.
His breakfast came with a sausage patty on thick cheese toast with cheddar cheese and scrambled eggs topped with gravy, plus a side of potatoes.
After eating some of it, hubby said he wished he had ordered the hash browns instead.
The potatoes were pretty bland and seemed like they didn’t have much seasoning.
Our Final Thoughts
Overall, our Valentine’s Day breakfast at Country Waffles was okay.
There were things we liked. My waffle had the crisp texture I wanted, the prices were reasonable, and the service was fairly quick.
But neither meal really wowed us. The strawberries with my waffle needed more sweetness, and Mike wasn’t impressed with his potatoes.
For a Valentine’s Day breakfast that hubby had spent days trying to find, we were hoping for something a little more special.
